pessimis-deactivated20120112: I am feeling incredibly frustrated for the lack of help the internet provides for my problem. I just want to create a static homepage on Tumblr with a few links to actual (themed) posts.. Could you help me? Thank you so much :)
I’d say your best bet is to create the pages using the page adder and then edit your home page accordingly, You’ll have to directly edit the CSS and perhaps the HTML of your Tumblr (found in the custom HTML section of the theme editor), but if you try and find a theme as close to what you’re after as possible then it should be relatively easy. You can create and style static divs (or elements) by adding divs like this<div id=”largephoto”><img src=”http://linktoimage.blah”</div> and then add to your CSS #largephoto {insert styling here width:300px;float:left; etc} so this would insert a picture of your choice depending on what image you selected, if you want to add images this way (without uploading them to your page via the tumblr method) then you’ll have to host the images online somewhere like photobucket etc and use the URL to place them.
I can’t answer you too well as I’m still not exactly sure what you’re wishing to do, but it sounds like you’re trying to make a website out of a blog. If this helps at all then great, if not, contact me with a more detailed description of what you wish to do and how far you’ve got so far.
Thanks, Sofi
takaia: Wow thanks so much for the fast response! I'm really new to this but I think I'm getting the hang of it. You didn't say anything about the date though. Do you know how to get the post date to show on each post when I embed my Tumblr on my website?
The date is a tricky one as the Javascript only pulls in the basic data, for example the images and text that’s available on your blog. I haven’t checked the Tumblr API in a while though, there might be a way of adding this now as I did this quite a while ago. If you need any more detailed help then get in touch and I’ll reply via email.
hello sofi. im trying to embed my tumblr into my personal website and running into a few difficulties. hopefully you still check this, and if you do, hopefully you can help.
here is a link to my website where the blog should be located:
baker-mark.com/blog.html
and here is a link to my tumblr, as it should appear:
ruinedinaday.tumblr.com
first thing you’ll notice is the “follow,” “dashboard,” and the tumblr’s nav dont appear.
numbers 1-10 appear next to my post and the images are all smaller than they originally were. there are other issues of course, but i was hoping you could point me in the right direction and school me on where i may have messed up my code so far.
thank you ~

deceleration2 : Your link is giving me a 404 error - it can’t find the web page are you sure it’s that? To get rid of the numbers you need to use list-style:none; on your posts selector, you can edit image size by using .tumblr_post and then the ‘img’ selector, then set your preferred image width. I can give you a more in depth explanation and email you solutions when I can see your blog appearing in your website. You’ll have to add the follow button in yourself - I’ll give you the link to a good tutorial, the Javascript line only pulls in the plain HTML of your blog content, not the additional buttons that appear on the page.
➜ Designed by Sofi: How to embed your Tumblr into your own website
In reply to takaia question “Is there a way to include the date or at least visibly separate the posts when embeding in my website? I can’t figure it out :(“
- to visually separate the posts you need to add either a margin or padding to your .tumblr_posts class. When looking at the classes provided by the HTML brought in you should be able to see what they are labeled. For example .tumblr_image or .tumblr_caption for example. You can select each of these classes (means .classname = .tumblr_post) and add a margin like this margin:20px 5px 20px 5px; which will give you a space of 20pixels between the top and bottom of the post and 5 pixels to either side, this will then space out your blog posts. It might take a bit of tweaking to get right but hopefully that helps.

I’ve spent ages looking for a simple tutorial on how to do this and for some reason there isn’t one…
Well, I figured how to do it so I want to share…
You’ll need:
- Your Tumblr
- Your Website
- Very Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS (which you should have if you’ve got your own website)
Firstly…
Latest project development for Uni - interactive story/promotional site for a currently fictional idea…
➜ New Portfolio Website - HTML5
Utilising the HTML5 boiler plate & webkit transform features for my new website. Still haven’t tested in IE at all. If you’re using Windows7 Firefox let me know about the kerning as there’s been issues! :)
I’m perfectly aware that this is jumping on the tumblr ‘I post pictures of cute animals all fucking day long’ band wagon but if you don’t want to reblog or like this just so you have it for future reference - then there is something wrong with you.
